One of Napiers best kept secrets

This afternoon we went to visit the Old Custom House.  They only open it to the public at certain times and when I did my big walk the other day I noticed it was going to be open today.  Billy came along too.  We had an interesting chat to the man there.  Learning more about the past in this sea port suburb of Napier.  There were many old photos of the buildings, boats, events and people to look at and discuss with him.  One particular one was a street very familiar to us and we compared the differences between then and now including the peoples fashions.  In the photo the people were walking along this certain road.

Daniel had a guided tour from the lady who was there.  She enjoyed talking to him :)    He liked turning the old boat steering wheel in one of the rooms.  The lady said she thought he was daydreaming about being a sea captain.  He also enjoyed ringing the ships bells that were in the rooms.

Just before we ended our visit he reminded us of the house's history and how and when it was built.  With this mind I briefly looked at the interior of the house itself again.  It is constructed of Rimu, Kauri and Pine.  I have always LOVED old houses.

The lady and man were wonderful guides and they had a sense of humour.  As we were leaving Daniel went to hop in the Iron Pot.  They reckoned they were quickly going to set a fire under it and eat him for dinner LOL
