Stairs and Steps - a walk that left me wondering

Today for the photo a day challenge the prompt was stairs.  I took a walk in a nearby suburb and when I got to posting my photo I was left pondering.

Although these look like stairs (to me) they are actually part of the roof on the Blue Water Hotel

these actually are stairs of the 1933 National Tobacco Company

I actually went in there today.  For a long time i didnt think you were allowed.  Today I risked it and was rewarded with this what I consider great photo of a wonderfully decorative place (sometimes a girl has to pat herself on the back)

other great features of this building include

to find out more I suggest you read this website :)

There were also interesting stairs and steps along the way

Fun after a tooth appointment :)

I picked Daniel up from school at the start of lunch today.  I didnt think Id be able to find him if I left it until the middle of lunch time.  We came home and had lunch.  Then he had to go to dental nurses.  He needed 2 fillings and a repair on one more.  He was so brave .  They only have a dental van visit his school so had to take him to this appointment at another school

After that I didnt think it was worth going back to school so we hit the park and look who came with us!!  :)

Afterwards I dropped him back at the school  crossing with his dad

Keas this term so far

This term we are working towards the Caring Kea Badge

last week they planted
spinach/silverbeet cross seeds

Tonight we worked on the Animal component of our badge tonight
the keas brought in a photo to show me
they each had a turn talking about their pet and what it ate
they found out some more info about their particular type of pet
we made a poster about all this

they have homework - they have to record how they look after their pet for a month

A very positive spin off :)

Ive been talking to a teacher friend (whose Daniel since he was very very little) and we agree that the improvement in his school life this term has been because of the 2nd week of the school holidays where I stimulated his brain :)  A very positive spin off to a fun week :)

After School Fun (not quite as I thought it would be like but still fun)

When I picked Daniel up from school I thought we would revisit the bike park that we went to last Monday after school.  He didnt want to.  He chose to play in the schools play ground for 1/2 hour which of least half of was spent up here

Then we decided to go a walk/bike ride along the road (we ended going 2.8 kms return)

in the photo with the phone which he cleverly placed in his helmet he was talking to his big sis :)

Skyline (mostly) Walk

This morning I went for a 7.3 km walk.  I had to drop off a parcel in Ahuriri  and I picked up some cardboard at church for tomorrow's craft with my Sunday school class.  I havent had a good long walk in a few days.  With the August photo a day in mind I set off.

interesting how after all this time they decide to make the fence which borders the park a little further down the road is now being extended

I like this!!

saw this bit of wildlife

Now of these actually made the cut to the photo a day challenge however I did want to keep them :)

Art Deco Napier

Yesterday morning I went into town after being prompted by the August photo a day challenge and took photos of all the art deco buildings I could find.   I had been thinking recently about taking these photos since getting my new camera anyway :)  They are mainly on 2 or 3 streets anyway and so it was an easy if not slow walk :)

NB while I have tried to group some of these photos to the buildings they belong to I havent always been that successful.  I ask that you simply enjoy my photos and get a general feel for what the Art Deco capital of New Zealand has to offer :)

Back to the beginning point of my walk.  I love the way this building curves

Before I wrap up this post I want to point out that once I had finished my walk in town I drove over to the Rothmans Building in Ahuriri as it is another fine example of Art Deco
